La Paz is the largest city in Baja California Sur, Mexico and its capital as well. It’s a true cultural center with an almost 500 year history. Because it’s a big city and an important regional commercial center. there’s so many options for fun and entertainment and always something new to explore.
One of the main attractions for travelers and residents alike is Malecon La Paz – a palm tree lined stone promenade overlooking the Sea of Cortez popular for a stroll any time of day. Or plentiful bars and restaurants for the world-renowned local cuisine. For art and culture addicts, La Paz is the home to many contemporary international and Mexican artisans.
The Cathedral of Our Lady of La Paz dates from the 19th century. Or the whale museum is the largest in the region for nature.
But we can’t not mention the incredible beaches that you’ll find if you decide to move to this city. Balandra beach is located less than 20 miles away and is a quintisential Mexican hideaway: pristine turquoise water surrounded by hilly red rock formations. With only a few palapas for rent, it’s as non touristy as you can get. There’s also El Tecolote beach with more infrastructure and El Tesoro beach which is ideal for children.
Some of the most popular communities in La Paz include Pedregal de La Paz, El Nido, and Paraiso del Mar. The population has grown greatly since the 2000s, largely because the city boasts one of the highest standards of living and overall security in Mexico.
La Paz is served by the Manuel Márquez de León international airport and two ferry services operate from the port at Pichilingue.
